Dancer. Researcher. multimedia artist.

If you are here I assume that you are curious about me and my work. Or maybe not. Whatever the case here you will find videos, photographs and texts where I have tried to use my interest in my art to awaken interest in you.

I am an experimental artist, researcher, choreographer and performer working with bodies as instruments of writing and physical resistance. I explore the performative embodiment of ideas, objects and practices, which activates in the consciousness an awareness of the subject in space-time. I am interested in the historical and contemporary formats of rupture, queerness, resistance and subversion within indigenous performance practices.

Although my principal medium of enquiry is my body within a contemporary framework, there is a conscious avoidance of being bound by trends, fashion or styles in the art world. This approach which permits an open, creative mobility, stimulates a vitality, which stems from the body and movement but goes beyond into the realm of photography, video installations, and other strands of artistic representations.

About me

dance in the field

Methodology : Participant observation

one of the Benefits of films in dance research is that , you can observe after participating....” as part of my interest to connect with new Cultures and ways of moving, the dance in the field project was born. This project involves visit to local communities, to initiate a conversation that would lead to an exchange of ideas. Here is a snippet with dancers from the Maasai community, an indigenous African community in Kenya.

IN THE HEART OF THE MOON

Sentimentality: “…the ostentatious parading of excessive and spurious emotion, the mark of dishonesty, the inability to feel…fear of life…aversion to experience…arid heart…secret and violent inhumanity, the mask of cruelty.”.. James Baldwin
